Our Research

Water decontamination

1.jpg

One of the focuses of our research team is to develop environmentally friendly catalytic methodology for the mineralization of  persistent organic pollutants  (POPs) by oxidative cleavage of C-C and C-hetero atom bonds of the organic pollutants. Here we target to yield mostly carbonic acid in water medium or harmless small organics.

Fine chemicals via selective bond cleavage

Our research team also focuses to develop environmentally benign catalytic methodologies for the selective activation of  of C-C or C-hetero atom bonds of the biomass lignin (a plant wood composition) or non-biodegradable polymers to yield value added fine chemicals.

Studies on reaction mechanism

Our research team also studies the reaction mechanism of the newer methodologies developed. It is very important to know about the transient intermediates formed. In this aspect we do different experiments like isotope lebeling, trapping of the adducts of the reactive intermediates, their isolation, as well as identifications.

Discovery of  new reactions

One of primary focuses of our research team is to synthesize selective catalytic systems for the deoxygenation reactions which will help to develop environmentally benign catalytic methodologies for the newer reactions like alkylation with alcohols, production of hydrocarbons from alcohol, generation of molecular hydrogen from water etc.
